Conference InformationWhat Can Be Done When Prostate Cancer Recurs?A National Conference on New and Emerging Treatment Options National Prostate Cancer Conference by clicking here
The Cancer Cure Coalition, a not for profit organization, has gathered together an impressive panel of leading doctors and scientists from across the country who are specialists in prostate cancer. The event is being produced with the assistance of the Jupiter and Wellington prostate patient support organizations and will be held at the PGA National Resort on Feb. 12, 2005. Prostate cancer is major health problem and the number one cancer among men Each year, over 200,000 American men are diagnosed with prostate cancer. Sadly, it will account for one in three new cancer cases in men, while over a lifetime one out of six men will develop the disease. These are the basic statistics that make prostate cancer the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men. Indeed, its prevalence is significantly greater than most other forms of cancer, including leukemia, Hodgkin’s disease and brain tumors. Moreover, there is alarming data that suggests a major increase in the incidence rates over the last five to ten years. It affects millions of men and impacts on many millions of families Though prostate cancer is quite deadly it generally progresses slowly over years, sometimes decades. While treatment can retard the cancer’s progression, for most there is still no cure. Prostate cancer has a high rate of recurrence after treatment: 30% recurrence after 5 years and 50% after 10 years. For this reason, prostate cancer is both a chronic and a deadly illness, meaning men live with its effects for years before it kills them. At any given time, millions of men in the US are living with some stage of prostate cancer. A Special Opportunity to Learn from Internationally Recognized Experts Our full-day conference is bringing together an all-star panel of scientists and doctors who are nationally recognized leaders in the fields of prostate cancer medical practice and research. They will be providing a tremendous amount of information and specialized knowledge based on the latest scientific investigations. Additionally, the panel will give special attention to treatments and therapies that are in current clinical trials and thus are in the pipeline to become available in the next 2 to 5 years. Those in attendance will have the chance to ask questions as well.
