January 2, 2004 Press Release

Cancer Cure Coalition Launches Major Initiatives

2003 was an important year for the progress of the Cancer Cure Coalition, and 2004 promises to be a year of even greater progress for the New York based Foundation. We are implementing the first phase of our multi-year strategic plan, which includes both new programming and significant organizational development. The Foundation has recently added Bram Levin as a member of its Board of Directors and as Corporate Secretary. Levin will also be acting as Executive Consultant, leading the Foundations new programs.

Our new program initiatives will focus on three central tasks. First is the expansion and enhancement of the core communication program dedicated to educating the public about the full-range of cancer treatment options and the role of lifestyle in prevention of cancer and maintaining good health. The second thematic area is a program focusing on helping underserved populations that suffer higher than average rates of cancer and cancer-related deaths, namely Latinos and African Americans. The third program is to encourage changes that will expedite the FDA approval process for new and better treatments.

We have redesigned and expanded our web site to make it a strategic tool at the center of our communication and educational outreach program. The web site will feature regularly updated articles and informational briefs regarding cancer research. We plan to develop it into a dynamic and widely recognized source of independent, patient friendly information, as well as a portal to other sources of cancer information.

Two of the special areas of interest covered are cutting-edge treatments that show promise and complementary treatments that demonstrate effectiveness. Another important theme is our nutritional protocol that helps to prevent cancer, heart attacks, strokes, dementia and Alzheimers disease. Just as vital though is that our articles will provide basic information about the potential benefits, limitations and risks of many standard treatments. The content is written in clear, non-technical language designed to inform and empower patients and caregivers so as to be able to participate meaningfully with physicians in the decision-making process regarding treatment.

Moreover, the web site will strive to serve as a host for creating an interactive community linking patients, caregivers, and others concerned about the treatment and prevention of cancer. Among the activities we will be implementing are web casts featuring interviews with major medical and scientific figures, and the valuable real life experiences that survivors and caregivers have had with fighting cancer.

During the course of the year we will continue to make presentations at community forums, health events, and other public gatherings. Members of the Foundation have been and will continue to be in contact with Medical Centers in both the US and abroad that are doing important cancer research and development. We are also planning to further develop collaborative outreach and education efforts with organizations locally and nationally. Our work also includes responses to patient questions about cancer treatment on a personalized basis.

Community members who are interested in volunteering to help the Cancer Cure Coalition are encouraged to contact us. Volunteers with diverse skills in communications, fundraising, organizing and education are especially needed, as are individuals who have a background in research, science or health.

All of us at the CCC wish everyone a healthy 2004 and invite you to visit our website at: www.cancercurecoaltion.org
